2-day long international workshop on “Telemedicine: Issues and Challenges” has started on 20 October 2015 in the Virtual Class Room at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka. The workshop is organized by Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) in association with Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. The workshop is arranged with financial assistance fron European Commission through Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN) Cooperation Centre, Korea and is supported by HEQEP. 40 physicians from different medical colleges and BSMMU attended this workshop. Participants and resource persons from Sri Lanka, Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia have also attended this international workshop. Press Release

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Akhtar Hossain, Member, University Grants Commission (UGC) and Vice-Chairperson of BdREN Trust as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Yusuf Ali Molla, Member, UGC, Professor Dr. Md. Shahidullah Sikder, Pro Vice Chancellor (Research & Development), BSMMU, Prof. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration), BSMMU, Professor Md. Ali Asgor Moral, Tresurer, BSMMU and Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta ndc, Additional Secretary and Project Director of HEQEP attended the ceremony as special guests. Professor Dr. Kamrul Hasan Khan, Vice Chancellor, BSMMU presided over the inauguration ceremony. Engineer A.K.M Habibur Rahman, CEO, BdREN delivered the welcome speech in the ceremony.

In his inauguration speech Prof. Md. Akhtar Hossain stressed on the learning and exchanging professional knowledge over the infratructural facilities of BdREN. He expressed his expectation that the participants would be immensely benefitted from the workshop thereby enriching their professional expertise. He praised BdREN’s active role in human resource development of the beneficiary organization with the help of TEIN Cooperation Center. In the first day, two live surgeries-one Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic surguery from Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and another live Endoscopic surgery from Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad, India was have been presented in the workshop using BdREN facilities.
